What this site covers
AI Austin is about one thing: making sense of the machine-intelligence scene in this city. We cover the university research and the labs doing the durable work, the chip and data-center build-out reshaping the metro, the startups shipping real products, and the trade-offs — power, water, jobs, policy — that the hype tends to skip. Not a buyers’ guide, not a vendor pitch. A clear-eyed look at what is actually happening.
Why it exists
Austin became an AI story faster than most places could explain it. The headlines swing between boosterism and doom, and the quieter, more interesting truth sits in between: a public supercomputer most residents have never heard of, a semiconductor plant going up an hour away, a city hall writing its first rules for how AI gets used in public services. This site exists to track that middle ground honestly, so a curious person can follow it without a subscription or a sales call.
How we work
Every page is built to be useful first. No pop-ups, no paywall, no autoplay. We write our own observations and recommendations in our own words, from our own read of the scene. We do not republish another publisher’s lists or awards — when we cite a source, we link it and move on. We would rather be useful and honest than first and loud.
Who publishes it
AI Austin is part of the WholeTech Network, an independent Austin, Texas publisher that has been building websites since 1996, starting with one of the city’s first online communities. The network spans more than a hundred sites, each focused on a single subject, all running on one server.
